Children of The Congo
Just like any where else in the world, children of The Congo love playing outdoors. Young boys often enjoy playing soccer, however most times they do not have a soccer ball. To improvise they will often use a grapefruit. Boys love to swim and play in the water. They love playing with toy trucks and building with sticks and wood. They enjoy playing with old bicycle wheels, playing tag, and running through the fields.
Girls begin helping their mothers at a young age, therefore they do not have as much time to play. They still enjoy singing, dancing, jumping rope, braiding hair, and playing house. Young girls greatly enjoy helping their mothers around the house with chores (Life in The Congo, n.d.). A popular game among girls is Tobeta Maboko. To play this game, the girls must face one other and jump and clap to a certain rhythm. The girl that has her feet in the correct place at the end of the song is the winner. (Click Tobeta Maboko above for detailed instructions on how to play the game).
